The Chemistry CollectiveThe Chemistry Collective is a collection of virtual labs, scenario-based learning activities, and concepts tests which can be incorporated into a variety of teaching approaches as pre-labs, alternatives to textbook homework, and in-class activities for individuals or teams. It is organized by a group of faculty and staff at Carnegie Mellon University for college and high school teachers who are interested in using, assessing, and/or creating engaging online activities for chemistry education. Upcoming EventsStop by our booth in the exhibit hall of this year’s ChemEd 2009 conference at Radford University, August 2 – 6, 2009. We will also be presenting a free workshop on classroom uses for the ChemCollective materials. Recent NewsIn May 2009, we presented a talk, "Virtual Labs, Tutors and Scenario Based Learning for Introductory Chemistry" at this year's CERMACS meeting in Cleveland, OH. In July 2008, we attended the 2008 BCCE at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. While there, we presented talks on equilibrium and our collaborative work in interdisciplinary virtual labs. We also had a booth in the exhibit hall. In June 2008, we presented a talk, "Digital Libraries to Support Problem Solving and Conceptual Learning in Introductory Chemistry" at the Gordon Research Conference on Physics Education Research and Practice at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. In November 2007 we attended the 7th NSDL Annual Meeting in Arlington, Virginia. At the meeting, we presented our collaborative work with groups at MIT and Kent State, "Interdisciplinary Virtual Labs for Undergraduate Education in the NSDL MatDL." |
